The popularity of crowdfunding is undeniable. In fact, when we look at the global annual funding back in 2009 that was approximately 1 billion USD and compare that to the annual funding at the end of 2013 which was approximately 5 billion USD, we see that the growth curve is continuing to accelerate. With some empirical data now available for the statisticians within us to cultivate and review, we are now able to determine not only the funding raised, but the number of individuals who contributed as well as the number of times the same individuals have contributed to multiple campaigns. What do all these statistics mean to you? You will soon be able to see through the Supporters Analytics modules which platforms boast the most supporters and super backers to determine the right platform for you.
Krowdster is big data powered crowdfunding app designed to build a crowd and to research, optimize, and discover crowdfunding campaign metrics on projects from the top crowdfunding websites on the web including Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Tubestart, Rockethub, and Pozible. These analytics are invaluable for project creators who are interested in learning the secrets behind the success of crowdfunding campaigns within their category. Today’s blog discusses the Supporter Analytics module within Krowdster.
The purpose of the supporters analytics module within Krowdster is to compare supporter statistics across multiple crowdfunding platforms. Krowdster currently supports Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Pozible, Rockethub, and Tubestart. To begin this demo, we see the above screenshot of the statistics for technology category crowdfunding projects across all platforms that have that category within their websites. The first two screens show the number of supporters who have contributed toward a campaign as well as the average contribution made by those supporters on each platform. Not surprisingly, the top two crowdfunding websites by website traffic have the highest number of individual supporters. Kickstarter has approximately 697,000 unique contributors in the technology category and Indiegogo has approximately 685,000 unique contributors. Pozible has only 19,000 backers and when we look at the average contribution per funding platform, Pozible also has the lowest average contribution amount of $89 and Kickstarter the highest with $329 followed by Indiegogo with an average contribution of $131.
The last graph in the supporter analytics module shows us the number of supporters who backed more than 10 campaigns. This demographic is whom we call “super backers” as they regularly are changing their spending habits to contribute to crowdfunding projects so that they can be the first ones to get the next greatest reward. Once again, we see Kickstarter has the largest super backer count with approximately 15,000 and Indiegogo comes in second with approximately 3,000. What makes a super backer contribute so many times and where do you find these super backers? That is the work that needs to be done before you ever launch a campaign. That is why it is critical to take advantage of this module in Krowdster as well as the multiple other discovery tools to identify the resources you will need to reach the right audience.
To summarize the insights that are available through the Supporter Analytics module of Krowdster:
- The two largest platforms by website traffic have the most unique backers
